President’s Article November 2021

Thank you to everyone that attended the 2021 Kansas Tourism Conference in Liberal LIVE! As we start to come out of our COVID downturn, it was wonderful to see so many first-timers there. This could not have happened without our great partner, Kansas Tourism, so a big thank you to Bridgette and her team.

For many of us, travel slows down as the weather cools. It gives us a time to catch our breath and plan for National Tourism Week in the spring.

For TIAK, however, this is our busy season. The Executive Board just finished another successful retreat, thanks to Susan Barnes and the Grand Central Hotel in Cottonwood Falls. We will be presenting our balanced budget and TIAK’s 2022 legislative agenda to the full board soon.

The advocacy committee is busy planning Destination Statehouse on February 9 in Topeka. I won’t steal their thunder, but a lot of new things are in the works, so be watching for details and registration soon. This is when TIAK takes over the state capital. Legislators even look forward to our event every year!

During this slower holiday season, I encourage you to get involved in any of TIAK’s committees or groups if you aren’t already. I look forward to watching the continued growth and success of our association. Thank you for allowing me to serve as your president this past year. My last report will be next month. Until then…To The Stars.
