The Travel Industry Association of Kansas (TIAK) offers the KANSAS DESTINATION SPECIALIST (KDS) certification program designed to familiarize and further one’s knowledge of the State of Kansas, tourism marketing and leadership.

To obtain your KDS:The cutoff to submit points/forms for 2011 is September 28, 2012. Earn 25 points at pre-approved conferences, seminars, webinars, trainings, etc. – the annual tourism conference counts towards three points and TIAK webinars are worth 1/2 point each. You do not need submit a form of attending TIAK or Kansas Tourism sponsored events as we can obtain the list from these offices.Point accumulation: List of pre-approved conferences Read and complete three book reports (one from each category ) Categories include: Kansas, Marketing and Leadership.Approved Reading List |
To renew your KDS:Renewal for KDS recipients takes place every even numbered year after initial designation. To maintain your KDS, you must complete two of the three requirements listed below. The next renewal period ends in September 28, 2012. Attend the annual tourism conference held each year in October (worth 3 points).You will not need to turn in a form for the tourism conference as it is pre-approved and the KDS committee will obtain the attendee list from TIAK offices. Read and complete one book report from the category of your choice. Categories include: Kansas, Marketing and Leadership.Approved Reading List Visit a Kansas attraction located 50+ miles away from your home and complete the required form.Visiting Attraction Form (Word Doc), Visiting Attraction Form (PDF) |
